Highlights from the week: August 8, 2014

Hello! We had a great week!! I was able to attend the Tides baseball game on Tuesday as a work (morale boosting) function, then we all had off on Friday to attend the USS Truman's Command Picnic held at Dam Neck Annex. It was VERY hot outside, but we still enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed hot dogs, burgers and sides, cotton candy, and snow cones, then took a quick dip in the ocean before heading home.

Decorating a frame for some artwork

Today we got to spend a wonderful afternoon with our Couples Bible Study Group. One of the couples, Katie and Andy, invited us to their house for a BBQ and swim at the lake. Everyone had a blast and I got some really cute pictures...

"I can wear these and I can look under."

Our brave boy wanted to try out everything- swimming by himself, riding in the paddle boat with Daddy and then with Mommy, and trying out the wave board!

And what could be more funny than ATTEMPTING to get a good picture of 2 toddlers?!? And what a happy accident- they match!!!  :)

It was a great day!

Back in business

It's been 2 weeks since I posted, but for good reason...there's been nothing to write about! Honestly! Samuel went to TN for a week to visit my parents, and Jacob and I have just been working and relaxing in the evenings. I didn't even take pictures while Samuel was gone! Crazy, I know!  :) Now that we have our sweet boy back, things will get back to normal. (ie. pictures WILL get taken)

Meeting my parents and sister in Roanoke, VA to hand off Samuel

That night we went to 2 MOVIES!!! With a break in the middle, we let loose at Target.

Tough question...which flavor Oreos to buy???

Going to see a movie at 10:30 PM!!!

Back together as a family again

Stopping at a rest stop so our boy can use the potty!!!

Playing with Play Doh on Sunday afternoon

Have a great week!

Counting down until Jacob comes home

Time flies when you're having fun, and this week flew by for Samuel! He joined 2 of his friends for Vacation Bible School at their church, so I got to enjoy a few hours to myself each night. It was a win/win situation.  :)

Needless to say, I didn't get many pictures throughout the week. I did make good use of my time though- enjoying the quiet at home, going to dinner with my friend and her sister (the kids were all 3 in VBS), getting a pedicure, and getting work done around the house.

Friday was our 5 year anniversary, and I look forward to celebrating once Jacob gets back. I did get to celebrate, sort of, by going out to dinner with our Bible Study group to the Yard House. It was delicious! Afterwards, the couple I rode with wanted to stop at Krispy Kreme for donuts. How could I say no???  ;)

Saturday was dedicated to Samuel. He slept in until 9:15 since we were both out late the night before, so we had a slow start to the day. Once we got moving, we packed up a picnic and headed out to Mt. Trashmore park in Virginia Beach for some running/playground time. That boy had a blast!  :) When we got back to the car I noticed a piece of metal sticking out of my rear driver side tire. Not good. Luckily we live right behind Kramer Tire, and they were able to get it replaced while I took Samuel home for a nap. While he napped, and they worked on the car, I was able to get the yard mowed and trimmed up.

Sunday morning was church at the Methodist church he went to for VBS, followed by naptime and chores. And tonight starts the kickoff for VBS at OUR church where I will be volunteering all week! Luckily Jacob comes home VERY soon, so Samuel can stay home and go to bed on time.

And that was our week!  :)

Anniversary donuts??

All ready to go to the park- with his picnic lunch and "packpack" on his back

Having fun

First. Donut. Ever.

Hmmmm.....

Fun times

This was a busy week, but aren't they all? Jacob left on Monday for a little boat ride, so it's just been Samuel and I holding down the fort. We were hit with a terrible storm on Thursday, but didn't sustain any damage to our home. Friday I was blessed with a VERY short work day. (1 hour!) Jacob scheduled the delivery of our new mattresses that day, so all I had to do was check in at work. Samuel was dropped off with Kathi, and then picked up less than 2 hours later!  :)

Be safe!

Come home soon!

Don't be sad!

And we've had a busy weekend full of playdates! Friday afternoon we met up with Christine and her daughter, Olivia. The kids had fun playing at the house, then had a BLAST swimming at the pool! Samuel was so tired when we left (due to not getting a nap) that he slept 13 hours Friday night!!

Swimming with friends

"Mommy, I swim like a fish!"

Saturday morning Jackie and Cody came over to hang out. Our husbands are both on the same ship, and she helped keep me (somewhat) sane during deployment.  ;) The boys had a blast playing with cars, trucks, and pulling all the pillows off the sofas. Samuel had a little trouble at first with sharing, but once I explained that Cody wasn't taking any of his toys home he seemed to calm down.

Silly boys!
It was a funny coincidence that both of them are wearing branded outfits with basketball shorts.

 Oh man!!!

And Sunday afternoon was spent at a VBS kickoff/carnival at Jackie's sister's church with Jackie, Alexandria, Cody, and Jackie's sister, Leslie. Samuel got to ride a horse, pet various animals, enjoy a snow cone, and play with his friends. Such a great way to end the weekend!

July 4th weekend

I said I'd get better about writing...and I didn't. So I'm thinking my goal for the second half of the year will be to post once a week. Sunday afternoon = peace and quiet at our house. I'm going to make it a point to post at that time. We'll see how I do!  :)

This past week was short for me AND Jacob! That never happens with the ship's schedule plus duty. (for him) Unfortunately he had duty on the 4th, but he was off on Thursday. We made the most of it by doing yard work, then going for a late evening swim in our neighbors' pool. While he was gone (24 hour duty) on Friday, Samuel and I went to Barnes and Noble, Harris Teeter, then home for a nap. (for him) The rest of the day was quietly spent playing with the water table, then another quick dip in the neighbors' pool. Saturday was shopping for a new mattress for Jacob and I, and then we finished the weekend with church and steaks on the grill.

So here's our weekend in pictures...enjoy!

"Look Daddy! I swimming very fast!"
"I swim like a fish!!"
He's figured out how to float with water wings on, and loves the independence.

Playing with the trains in the children's section at B & N

I LOVE that my boy loves to read!!!

Can you tell what we're doing at our house???  :(

We worked on the yard on Thursday, so Friday Samuel had to "help".
"Mommy, I need to wear your gwubes."

June 4th

I'm BACK!!!  :)  So, the past few months have been a little crazy (to say the least!) but I'm still here. I've heard that a few people have been checking out the blog and a certain someone (who may or may not outrank me)  ;) has informed my husband that I need to update the blog.  :) I'll work on some posts over the weekend, but wanted to include a few pictures tonight.

April 18th...a long awaited day...HOMECOMING!!!!!

Happy Easter!

Our home is complete again

Thanks for stopping by!
